For large spans and in order to maintain the integrity of the balustrade system, support blocks should be placed under the bottom rail such that the span between supports does not exceed 48 inches. Such supports can be as little as a few eigths of an inch to permit drainage below the lower rail or as much as four inches to stay within the four inch ball code.
